For over 25 years, Acorns has offered a network of specialist palliative care for life-limited and life-threatened children and young people.
The support Acorns delivers is tailored to the individual needs of each child and their family and includes short break provision, emergency and end of life care.
A multi-disciplinary team, including registered children’s nurses, health care assistants and physiotherapists, provide care on a one-to-one basis.
For families, a dedicated family worker is on hand 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, providing advocacy, co-ordination of services within the hospices and with other agencies as well as bereavement support.
It is this network of care both inside and outside the hospice, which is vital to help families feel equipped to cope at every stage of their child’s life.
Acorns for the Three Counties, based in Worcester, opened in 2005 and is currently caring for 240 children and nearly 300 families from across Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire.
Acorns vision is that every child and young person living in the region that is life-limited or life-threatened should receive the specialist care and support they need.
Helen Dowdeswell, Major Gifts Manager at Acorns, said: “As a charity we rely heavily on the local community for the bulk of the funding needed to continue, so the long-standing generosity of the Bransford Trust cannot be underplayed."
“The significant, ongoing support the Trust has provided is absolutely vital as we seek to fulfil Acorns vision to care for every child who needs us and help their families cope with the huge challenges they face every day.”
